Australian Nick O&aposHern carded a third-round 67 to move within striking distance at the AT&T National. O&aposHern improved to eight-under-par and a share of third, two shots shy of outright leader Tom Pernice Jr (69). American Steve Stricker (66) was another on the charge in the penultimate round. He sits in second place, one shot behind Pernice. American pair Jeff Overton and Tommy Armour III, along with O&aposHern, are locked away in third. O&aposHern&aposs countryman Robert Allenby (67) fired his most impressive round of the week to go six-under the card. John Senden and Rod Pampling are next best of the Australian contingent after they signed for rounds of 67 and 71 respectively. Both are four-under-par. Pernice, the man to catch, bogeyed the 518-yard, par-four 6th but rebounded with a birdie on the 8th to sit at even par before the turn. The 48-year-old was even until a birdie on the 17th to remain in the hunt for his third career title. Stricker got off to a blistering start, playing his first eight holes at three under before a bogey on the 9th. He added three more birdies on the back nine – at holes 10, 13 and 15 – before finishing with another bogey at the 17th to card a four-under 66. Overton, meanwhile, shot one over. He was one under through the front nine, but struggled after the turn with bogeys at holes 10 and 14 before a double-bogey on the par-four 15th. Overton recovered with birdies on two of the final three holes. It has been a trying year for Overton, who has missed the cut in six of his last seven events and 10 of 18 tournaments overall. The event is being hosted by Tiger Woods, who was advised by doctors not to fly after undergoing knee surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee three weeks ago.
