O’Keeffe shines at Sand Greens

A strong field of 81 players converged on Tambo Golf Club over the weekend, for the 2018 Qld Women’s Sand Greens Championship.

Champion Brooke O’keeffe (Springsure) claimed the 2018 championship with rounds of 71 and 73 to finish even par for the 36-hole event. This was O’keeffe’s fourth Sand Green’s victory after previously winning in 2008, 2012, and 2015 events.

Runner-up, 2017 champion Sheree Hasson (Mackay) finished 3 shots back after returning rounds of 75 and 72.

In Division 2 St George’s Anette Walters and Alpha’s Denise Vale couldn’t be separated after 36-holes and had to play the 125 meter 3rd Hole in sudden death. After both players missed the green, it was the chip shot of Walters to 2 feet and a tap that secured the Division 2 category.

Roma member Tanya Beck was victorious in Division 3 after returning rounds of 92 and 85 to win by eight shots.

Bill Rogers, Mary Sutherland and all the team of volunteers of Tambo Golf Club should be extremely proud of the hospitality shown to all players and for the condition of the golf course.

Thank you to sponsors Blackall-Tambo Regional Council and the Mead Perry Group. Their support towards the Tambo Golf Club and this year’s event has been fantastic.

The sand greens community will next head to Mitchell Golf Club where another to contest the 2019 Qld Women’s Sand Greens Championship.
