Olsen & Tickell claim gross titles, while O’Brien & Mildren win nett titles at Shepparton Senior Amateur.

Kym Olsen completed a fine two-day event claiming the championship with two rounds of 73 (146 total). The National member started the second and final round tied on the lead but broke away when Ken O’Brien slipped up with a double bogey on the 17th. A par down the last gave Olsen a three shot victory.

This was only the second Senior Amateur event for Olsen after only just turning 55. Kym is not unfamiliar to the golfing scene after making an appearance at the 2013 US Senior Open.

Paul Ansell (Metropolitan) & Ken O’Brien (Rossdale) were tied second on a 149 total.

In the nett, Ken O’Brien continued some strong form finishing on top of the leaderboard with nett rounds of 70 & 73.

June Tickell (Trafalgar) outclassed the women’s field to win the scratch stableford section with rounds of 30 & 29.  Christine Mildren (Albury) took home the stableford title with rounds of 28 & 30.

The Shepparton Golf Club, which current site was established in 1922, is home to a fantastic 18-hole championship layout. Players enjoyed the course and hospitality provided with common statements that ‘they’ll be back next year’.

Some players in the field will make their way up the highway to Tocumwal Golf Club for their Senior Amateur to be played on Thursday & Friday.
