Ona nails play-off win in Alice Springs

Ona began the day in a tie for third and shot a final round 1-under 72 to join Oh, who also shot a 72 to make the play-off on the 18th hole. It’s amazing to win, the 17 year-old said. I was a bit nervous when I knew I was going into a play-off but I felt confident I could win, Ona said. Fellow Queenslander Christina Mew was on Ona s bag in the play-off to help calm her nerves. The course is in great condition and after playing this championship last year, I was really keen to get my name on a trophy with the likes of Sarah Kemp and Sarah-Jane Smith, Ona said. Ona, who has been playing golf for 11 years and is a member of Gailes Golf Club, is currently ranked sixth on the Australian Girls Rankings. Justine Lee (NSW), the Leading Amateur at the Women’s Australian Open, finished with a final round 5-over par 78 to be in outright third. Saki Suzuki, who led the championship at one stage, also finished with a 78 to claim fourth. Monica Jung (NSW) finished fifth with a final round 2-over par 74. Breanna Elliott (VIC) and Christina Mew (QLD) finished in a tie for sixth place at 6-over. Whitney Harvey (WA) and Ali Orchard (QLD) were tied for 8th place.
