Oosthuizen jumps to the top in Durban

South African Louis Oosthuizen stormed to the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage of the Volvo Golf Champions in Durban. Oosthuizen, who claimed two European Tour victories last season, carded an eight-under 64 on Friday to move a shot clear on 12-under at the Durban Country Club. The home favourite&aposs brilliant display came courtesy of a bogey-free round that included eight birdies in wet conditions. Overnight leader Thongchai Jaidee is a shot off the pace following his four-under in a round that was delayed by two hours following heavy overnight rain. The Thai golfer started the day with a three-stroke lead but could not sustain that level which saw him occupy the leading position on Thursday. Joining Jaidee at 11-under is Scott Jamieson of Scotland, who sunk nine birdies on his way to an eight-under 64. And while the trio are right in contention for victory, the gap begins to widen from fourth position where Scotland&aposs Paul Lawrie leads a group of six players, who are six strokes off the pace. Lawrie carded a round of 70 to claim a share of fourth alongside Frenchman Julien Quesne (67), Irishman Shane Lowry (69), Dane Thomas Bjorn (70), Jeev Milkha Singh of India (70) and England&aposs Danny Willett (70). At four-under are Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts (67) and Italian Francesco Molinari (70), both members of Europe&aposs triumphant Ryder Cup team, and last year&aposs runner-up Ernie Els (72). Rafa Cabrera-Bello of Spain shot a three-under 69 and was joined by Irishman Padraig Harrington (71) and Welshman Jamie Donaldson (72) on three -under heading into the weekend. Meanwhile, defending champion Branden Grace of South Africa is a further shot back in a tie for 16th position following his five-under display.
