Golf NSW State Squad member Callan O Reilly came close to securing the biggest win of his career at the recent NSW PGA Championship at Mount Broughton Golf Club. O Reilly, from the Pennant Hills Golf Club, held the 54 hole leader at 12 under with a host of more experienced professionals breathing down his neck. One of those was the eventual Matt Stieger, a former State squad member himself. No doubt both players were playing with added confidence on the back of the recent success of Jake Higginbottom, especially at last week s New Zealand PGA Championship. After recording two birdies on the outward nine unfortunately O Reilly lost momentum after recording a bogey and double-bogey on the 10th and 11th holes before finishing with a three over par 75. O Reilly&aposs total of 9 under was still good enough for a very respectable tied sixth, which will provide a good springboard into the busy summer months.
