Thailand&aposs Kiradech Aphibarnrat claimed his first European Tour title at the Malaysian Open on Sunday, while Australian Wade Ormsby had a nightmare final round. Ormsby, who began the final day in second place, shot a disastrous five-over-par round of 77 to throw away any chance of a victory. Despite a bogey on the last, Aphibarnrat held his nerve to post a one-shot victory at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club ahead of Italian Edoardo Molinari. The 23-year-old Thai finished on 13-under after his closing two-under 70, with Molinari (67) a stroke back and Dane Anders Hansen (66) climbing to outright third at 11-under. Aphibarnrat&aposs win was not without drama as the tournament, which was reduced to 54 holes due to persistent thunderstorms, had another untimely intervention due to the weather. This time the delay came with the final group, which included Aphibarnrat, on the 16th hole. He was one shot ahead of Molinari – who was already in the clubhouse – when the storms hit, which lasted two hours. Aphibarnrat held his nerve though, producing a birdie immediately after play resumed before saving par on the 17th hole. And despite his bogey on the last, Aphibarnrat held on for a wire-to-wire victory which will see him jump into the top 90 on the official golf rankings. Hansen fired four birdies and an eagle in his six-under 66. Frenchman Victor Dubuisson and former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel from South Africa were tied for fourth on 10-under. English duo Mark Foster and David Howell, Irishman Padraig Harrington, Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal and Sweden&aposs Alexander Noren were all locked in a five-way tie for sixth a further stroke back.
