Ormsby second at Euro Q-School

Australian Wade Ormsby has made a dream start to the European Tour&aposs Qualifying School final stage to sit in a tie for second after the opening day. Playing on the par 71 Red Course, the 28-year-old fired two birdies and a bogey on his opening nine holes before scorching home with four more birdies to sign for a five-under-par 66. Ormsby shares second place with South Africa&aposs Branden Grace, Paraguay&aposs Marco Ruiz, and Inder van Weerelt of the Netherlands, all of whom also completed their rounds at the Red Course. They trail Sweden&aposs Oskar Henningsson by one shot after he carded a six-under 66 at the Green Course at PGA Golf de Catalunya in Girona, Spain. Henningsson opened with a bogey before three birdies and an eagle on the back nine put him in pole position to claim one of the 30 European Tour cards on offer. Aussies Tony Carolan and Michael Curtain also made excellent starts with rounds of four-under 67 to take a share of sixth spot. New Zealand&aposs Gareth Paddison and Aussie Anthony Summers are further down the pack at one-under, while Scott Hend fired an even-par 71, Steven Jeffress is at one-over and Matthew Millar is two-over. Jarrod Moseley is tied for 132nd after a four-over 75, while Andrew Tampion had a disastrous six-over-par 78 and sits just one place above last.
