Out with a BANG at the Secondary Schools Senior Final

After another successful year of the SSV Secondary Schools Golf Event, today was the day all that talent assembled on The Metropolitan Golf Club to try and claim top honours in the 2017 Senior State Final. The senior students who had progressed to the final through their local division event, were treated to one of the best golf courses in the country on a day primed for going low. In conjunction with the final the 17 & Under SSV Team Vic Selection Trails were run to decide on a school state team to compete at the Pacific Schools Games in early December.

In the senior girls section in was the familiar face of Linley Ooi (Melbourne Girls College) at the top of the leader board with an impressive score of one under 72. After an unfortunate triple bogey on the 1st, Linley responded with 5 birdies on the front nine to cap a rollercoaster nine holes of two under par. Not too far behind in second place was Nasya Sohail (Al-Taqwa College) with a 75, and in third place Ashleigh Hall (Highvale SC) with a 78. In the boys section the scores were just as impressive and the race even closer. Again, not shy of a good score was the boys overall champion Kieran Vogels (Rowville SC) carding a 3 under par 68. Kieran made the most of his opportunities and didn’t hold back on the par 5’s, carding an eagle, two birdies and a par on the four available at Metropolitan layout. Also standing out amongst the crowd was the young and talented Jarrett Miles (Bendigo SSC) finishing with a two under 69 and finishing in outright second position. Next in line were the two Rowville Secondary College classmates of Jasper Stubbs and Peter Vassiliadis, both scoring rounds of one under 70. In deciding the final standings, Jasper was successful in taking out the third-place position with an inward nine of 35.
