Owen takes the lead at Sorrento Senior

Round 1 of the Sorrento Senior Amateur kicked off today as a full field of 108 players teed it up in very warm conditions for golf.

John Owen (Barwon Heads) holds the overnight lead by a single shot after recording a highly impressive two over par 72. 

Close behind is Gordon Claney (Kingston Heath) and Kew’s Stephen Valentine who finished with 73 and 74 respectively.

Roderick Fraser (Monash) leads the way in the nett section after he finished with 68 off a handicap of 9.

 Also playing off a handicap of 9, sees Keith Finkelde (Latrobe) who sits only one shot behind on 69. 

Rounding out the top three is a cluster of players including Gary Anquetil (Thirteenth Beach), Andrew Griffiths (Warrnambool), Gary Johnstone (Belvoir Park) and Barry Miles (Sanctuary Cove) who all finished on 70.

The 2018 Men’s Senior Order of Merit trophies will be presented tonight at the tournament dinner before round 2 commences tomorrow morning at 8:30am.
