Pak continues Classic domination

South Korean Se Ri Pak out-dueled young American Morgan Pressel to claim her fifth Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic on the US LPGA Tour. Pak was in front throughout the week at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio, posting four consecutive rounds in the 60s and she closed it out on Sunday with a final-round four-under 67. Pressel made her push on the front nine, cancelling out Pak&aposs two-stroke overnight lead and hitting the front herself thanks to a two-shot swing at the fourth, where she had a birdie and Pak could only manage bogey. The 19-year-old, who won the Kraft Nabisco Championship earlier this year, extended her advantage to two at the sixth thanks to a hole-in-one, the first of her career, at the par-three sixth, which Pak birdied. Birdies on eight and nine allowed Pak to square things up with nine holes to play. The 29-year-old held a one-stroke advantage walking down the 18th, but nailed her approach for a short birdie putt while Pressel found trouble off the tee and had to settle for bogey. The win, when added to Pak&aposs previous triumphs at this tournament in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2003, makes her the only woman in LPGA Tour history to win the same event five times. At 17-under, Pak won by three strokes from Pressel at 14-under, with a four players tied for third a further six shots back. Two Australians made the cut, but finished well back, with Katherine Hull and Rachel Hetherington finishing in a five-way tie for 21st at two-under. Wendy Doolan and Michelle Ellis missed the cut. The tour moves to New Rochelle, New York State this week for the HSBC Women&aposs World Match Play Championship. The Ladies European Tour had the week off and resumes action at the Evian Ladies Masters on July 26.
