Park blows them away at Coffs Harbour

Hannah Park has carded a blistering course record seven under par 64 to vault into a tie for the lead midway through day two of the Women's' NSW Open at Coffs Harbour Golf Club.

The 17-year-old Golf NSW State representative from New South Wales Golf Club was in sublime form, carding a bogey-free round that included seven birdies.

Park said the keys to her round was a red-hot putter and the quality of her short game. She credited a bit of self-talk to her success as well.

"I was just sinking everything out there today. The hole was like a vacuum; everything went in.

"My [putting] speed was really good today, which is a good thing for this course.

"My ball striking was good too, but there were some holes where I didn't strike it that well, but I still managed to get up and down.

"I think I scrambled very well.

"I was talking to myself,' you're going good, so don't get down on yourself'.

"I think I controlled my mind well today," she smiled.

Park has only played in four professional events to date. Last week at Bonville and this week's NSW Open are the first time she has played in professional events back-to-back.

"I played the New Zealand Open, the Women's NSW Open in 2015, and the Australian Ladies Classic – Bonville.

"Last week I made the cut, which was my first pro event cut.

"I was pretty happy too, but I didn't play that well on the last two days," Park smiled.

In a sign that she is rapidly finding her feet competing against the game's elite, Park said today 'just felt like a normal game'.

"It didn't feel like a pro event; I think I was in the zone with my game.

When asked about how proud her mum and dad are going to be when they hear the news of her great round, Park laughed, "They will be, hopefully."
