Parnevik maintains the pace

Jesper Parnevik fired a five-under-par 65 to extend his lead to four strokes after Friday&aposs second round of the Texas Open, while Gavin Coles is the nearest Australian nine strokes off the pace. With a round that included six birdies and a bogey, Swede Parnevik sits atop the leaderboard at 14-under 126, the best halfway score of 2007 so far. Parnevik is four shots in front of Mathias Gronberg, who also recorded a five-under 65 on Friday on his way to a 10-under 130 for the tournament. Parnevik tore through LaCantera Golf Course in Thursday&aposs first round, overcoming a bogey on his first hole to finish with 10 birdies in a career-best nine-under 61, with the Swede aiming for his first PGA Tour victory since the 2001 Honda Classic. He is also five strokes ahead of Fredrik Jacobson, who made his presence felt on Friday afternoon, firing a five-under 65 en route to a 131 overall. Jacobson is tied with Richard S. Johnson, who notched a four-under 66 on the tournament&aposs second day. Coles, the closest Australian, is still a long way off Parnevik&aposs rapid pace, nine strokes adrift after carding a one-under 69 on Friday to be five-under overall. The most inspiring Australian performance, though, probably came from Andrew Buckle, though. After an even front nine, Buckle&aposs performance looked like it was falling apart as he triple bogeyed 10, but the Aussie drew himself together and came home with four birdies to finish his round with a respectable one-under 69 that puts him two-under on the overall leaderboard. Buckle is one of four Australians to be at two-under, though. He is alongside Matthew Goggin, who also carded a 69 on day two, Paul Gow (68) and Jarrod Lyle (70). The Australian quartet at two-under is three strokes ahead of Michael Sim (71) who made the cut by one stroke, but Nick Flanagan (69) and the New Zealand trio of Phil Tataurangi (72), Grant Waite (72) and Craig Perks (76) were not so fortunate, while Aussie Mark Hensby withdrew after the first round.
