Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) and Marian McKenzie (Warrnambool) have been crowned champions at the 2018 Victorian Women’s Spring Tournament.
Pascoe’s second round of 76 at Barwon Heads GC today was just enough to secure her win in the overall gross from Commonwealth’s Casey Wild.
Pascoe’s efforts will see her name etched on her second Ruby McKenzie Trophy of 2018 following her win at the Autumn Tournament at Murray Downs GC earlier this year.
Wild did her absolute best today to reign in the four-shot deficit she left herself after round 1 but ultimately fell just short.
However, Wild’s impressive 73 today was good enough to see her take home the A Grade gross prize.
The Warrnambool Golf Club swept the prize table and were led by Marian McKenzie who claimed the Vi Teasdale Trophy on a countback to fellow Warrnambool member Susan Wilton.
McKenzie stormed home with a 64 nett at Curlewis GC today and was thrilled to have won her first major title.
In the A Grade Nett, Jenny Bauerle (Kyabram Valley View) enjoyed a fantastic tournament and was a clear winner with a nett total of 148.
Susan Wilton was a standout in B Grade, taking out both the gross and nett championships.
The 17-handicapper took a liking to both courses and fired two consistent rounds of 91 and 87.
Runner-up prizes went to Ciara Lappin (Warrnambool) and Gillian Sharp-Paul (Portsea) in the gross and nett respectively.
Clifton Springs member Jan Hourigan dominated the C Grade section with victories in both the gross and nett.
Hourigan, who started the final day four shots back in the gross section, fired an impressive 93 today to claim the title.
Playing off a handicap of 22, the Clifton Springs member finished with nett scores of 76 and 71 to finish two clear of Warrnambool’s Di Sullivan.
Vi Teesdale champion Marian McKenzie also claimed the D Grade gross prize by a whopping 13 shots with her scores of 106 and 92.
Runner-up to McKenzie was Ocean Grove’s Susan Stevens who finished with scores of 104 and 107 for a 211 total.
The D-Grade nett trophy went to Shepparton’s Helen Jennings who finished with 148.
After a first round score of 78, Jennings produced a magnificent nett 70 today off a daily handicap of 36.
A further three shots back from Jennings was Beaufort member Heather Cuthbertson who produced rounds of 71 and 80 for a 151 total.
Golf Victoria would like to pass on its sincere thanks to both Curlewis and Barwon Heads Golf Clubs.
From the pristine condition of the courses to the hospitality and the many volunteers, both clubs were exceptional in the way they staged the event.
Players were extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to play two of the finest courses showcased on the Bellarine Peninsula.
We hope everyone enjoyed this year’s Spring Tournament and we look forward to seeing you back next year at Bright and Myrtleford.
