Helen Pascoe has continued her great start to the week with a 78 in today’s first round of the Victorian Women’s Country Championship.
Players will return to the course tomorrow for round two and will compete for a top-four spot in the overall gross in order to advance to the match play component on Thursday.
Also up for grabs is the Betty Kernot Trophy which is awarded to the leading qualifier.
Pascoe, the Betty Kernot winner from last year, was consistent throughout her round with 13 pars to lead by three from her winning foursomes partner from yesterday Rebecca Thomas.
Assuming Pascoe and Thomas continue their dominant form, the final two spots in the match play will be toughly contested with eight players within four shots of each other.
In the net section, Di Rogers leads by one on 74 over Marion Venn and Petra Wilmot.
The Glenelg Cup is awarded to the best net from the 36 holes from players with a handicap above 16.4
After a fantastic score of 72 net, Julie O’Brien will take a one-shot lead into tomorrow’s final round.
Fellow Finley member, Sharon Pyle finished on 73 and will be looking to take home the title tomorrow.
Four players sit a further shot back on 74.
In the gross section of the Glenelg Cup, Pyle and O’Brien are tied with Lorraine Ryan after the three all finished on 94.
The Glenelg Cup will be played on the Presidents course whilst the Championship players will compete on the Captains.
