Metropolitan Pennant – Simpson Cup Round 4 summary
Winners in round four of the Metropolitan Pennant season played at The Grange Golf Club were The Grange, Kooyonga, Glenelg and Blackwood.
In the first match of the day off the 1st tee, The Grange proved too strong for The Vines powering to a 7 – 0 victory. Winners for Grange were, Ben Tucker 7&6, Scott Webb 4&3, Mark Demasi 6&5, Andre Na 4&3, Alex Hendrick 3&2, Justin Crowder 5&4 bringing up his fourth win of the season and Ben Stowe 3&2.
In the other early match off the 10th tee, Kooyonga secured its fourth straight win defeating Highercombe 7 – 0.
Winners for Kooyonga were, Peter Johns 4&3, Joe Hodgson 1up, Sam Gava 3&2, Daniel Speirs 5&4, Heath Riches 6&5, Tm Baker 3&2 and Will Somerfield 4&3. Speirs win was his fourth of the season.
Glenelg bounced back to secure an important 5 – 2 win against Tea Tree Gully who drop from top of the table to third.
Ryan White gained an early 2&1 win for The Gullies at number 7 against Luke Bashford, however Glenelg’s middle order were too steady with Antony Olsen remaining undefeated this season with a 2up win and David Hiern and Will Starkey and Josh Hayes all defeating their opponents.
With the contest decided, Tea Tree Gully won the number two match courtesy of a 2&1 win to Sam Burton against Lachlan Barker before Glenelg secured its fifth win with Ben Hallam accounting for Chris Austin 3&2.
In a tight tussle, Blackwood secured its second win of the year defeating Royal Adelaide 4.5 – 2.5.
Blackwood had two wins on the board early in the piece after Gavin Britten won 4&3 against Sam Medlin and Daniel Wake defeated William Arnold 4&2.
After match five between Ben Winton and David Cherry was halved and Royal Adelaide won matches three and four courtesy of Matt Lawson 2up and Nathan Baulderstone 1up, the contest was all square 2.5 matches a piece.
Enter Blackwood’s top order of Nick Wake and Andy Humphries who under pressure produced the goods winning over Patric Kroschel and Billy Cawthorne 4&2 and 2&1 respecively to close out the win for Blackwood.
Next week’s round five matches are held at Glenelg Golf Club with the host side coming up against Highercombe. Tea Tree Gully plays Kooyonga, while Royal Adelaide and The Vines do battle. The round is closed out with the match between The Grange and Blackwood.

Metropolitan Pennant – Women’s A1 Round 2 summary
The Grange, Glenelg and Kooyonga remain undefeated after round two of the 2015 Women's A1 Pennant Competition played at Blackwood Golf Club.
In what was the first of the three relatively lop-sided contests for the day, The Grange proved too strong for Blackwood 4.5 – 0.5 with Jin-Young Yun, Cassidy Evreniadis, Kristalle Blum and Ella Adams all securing comfortable wins.
The final match, the top battle between Caitlin Roberts and Jo Buchanan was squared. In the same fixture last season Buchanan also squared her match at number against Kristalle Blum, with the overall result the same 4.5 – 0.5.
In the second contest off the tee, Kooyonga defeated Royal Adelaide 4 – 1 courtesy of wins to Jodie Deacon 1up over Sophie Hilditch, Caillin Lakin 5&3 against Jill McEwin, Deb Percey 7&6 over Anne Ellis and Lyn McGough winning 3&2 against Juliet Hugo.
Royal Adelaide’s match was courtesy of a win to Edwina Grant 3&2 over Jill Trenorden.
Reigning premiers Glenelg defeated the SA Fringe side 3.5 – 1.5 with comfortable wins to number three Sarah Griffiths 5&4 over Cecilia Douglas and number one Elysia Yap 6&5 against Rachel Taylor.
At number two Sophie James won 2&1 in a close match over Susan Keylock, while Jessica Burns halved with Taylah Cooper at number five. The Fringe’s full point was courtesy of Reo Jenner defeating Josie Hodge 1up.
Next week Glenelg will start favorites against Royal Adelaide, while Golf SA play Blackwood with the winner to secure their first points of the season. The battle between the undefated Kooyonga and The Grange should be enthralling.
