Percy, Chalmers spread Aussie love

They say music opens hearts and conversations … the jury might still be out on Vegemite.

At least that was the case for Aussie golfers Cameron Percy and Greg Chalmers in New Orleans at the weekend when they gave an extra dimension to the walk-out tunes for the Zurich Classic.

The veteran pair decided they’d walk out to Men At Work’s famous Down Under for the funky team event on the US PGA Tour, but Percy decided to take it to the next level.

“On Saturday, I said to Greg we should bring out Vegemite sandwiches for (the crowd) tomorrow,” the Victorian told RSN’s Breakfast Club this morning.

“He looked at me like I had two heads, but they had Vegemite in the players’ lounge, so I made up some sandwiches (for Sunday’s entry to the first tee).

“So I gave ‘em out to the crowd and they had a bite and screwed their faces up, as they do, trying Vegemite.

“The people from (sponsor) Zurich loved it, they thought it was fantastic. And the crowd loved it, too.”

And the snacks weren’t the only tasty item on the Aussie pair’s menu with a string of weekend birdies elevating them to a share of 10th place.
