Percy two off pace in Texas

New Zealander Danny Lee has the lead at the Web.Com Tour s WNB Classic in Midland in Texas as he chases a successful defence of the title he won in a playoff twelve months ago. Lee leads by two over Morgan Hoffman and Australian Cameron Percy heading into tomorrow s final round with another two shots back to Jamie Lovemark. Lee, the former US Amateur Champion and youngest winner of a European Tour event when he won the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic as an amateur in Perth, made a slow start to the tournament on Thursday but has since added 18 birdies including five out of his first seven holes today leading to a round of 65. The 22 year old Lee, who has his full PGA Tour card in 2012, has played three recent events on the Web.Com Tour to keep his game in shape and to perhaps keep his options open for 2012 while he waits for the FedEx Cup Finals to be completed. Lee is currently 168th on the PGA Tour s money list and so unless he can produce some good results in the upcoming Fall Series he is likely to have to attend Stage Two Qualifying. A win here and a win or a good finish next week at the Web.Com Tour s Chiquita Classic before he heads back to the big stage might change all of that very quickly however. Percy appears secure as far as his PGA Tour status for next season although a win or even a good finish this week will put any concerns beyond doubt. He is currently in 16th position on the Web.Com Tour money list having dropped four positions last week. Steve Bowditch and New Zealander Tim Wilkinson are the next best of the Australasians this week in a share of 16th position although nine shots from the lead.
