Perfect day for golf at Gardiners Run

Round 1 of the Gardiners Run Senior Amateur was played in perfect conditions today in Lilydale at the Gardiners Run Golf Course. Extended to 36-holes this year, the event saw 63 players tee it up this afternoon in brilliant sunshine.

Frank Palinkas (Woodlands) and Kym Olsen (The National) are tied for the lead after even par rounds of 72. John Kelly of Metropolitan and Rossdale’s Ken O’Brien are hot on their tails a mere shot behind with a pair of 73s.

Wayne Aigner of Sandhurst brought home the best nett score. The 6 marker carded a 74 off the stick for a nett 68 to be a single shot ahead of Paul Fink (RACV Cape Schanck) and Simon Marsh (Green Acres) on 69.

In the women’s field it was Maureen O’Flaherty coming in with a magnificent score of 41 stableford points. The Rossdale member’s impressive score is leading Dorset Ladies' Helen Drake by 3 points.

Judy Langford of Wodonga had the best scratch stableford score on 28 points. Langford is leading the scratch field by 2 points from Kooringal’s Heather Harley on 26 points.

Round 2 starts at 8:30am tomorrow morning.
