Perry and Pascoe – 2012 Victorian Mid-Amateur Champions

Jason Perry from the Royal Melbourne and Buninyong’s Helen Pascoe have won the respective Men’s and Women’s titles at the 2012 Victorian Mid Amateur Championship following the final round played at The Sandhurst Club on Tuesday May 8th.

Perry fired rounds of 69 at Southern and 74 on the Sandhurst North Course for a two round total of one-under 143. The 40-year-old former Victorian State player won by a solitary stroke from Keysborough’s Clay Nicholls who finished on 144 after a closing round of two-under 70. John Owen from Barwon Heads was third on 146.

It was a similarly close finish in the Women’s event with Pascoe and Sale’s Jo Sellen tied on two-round totals of 162. A sudden death play-off ensued with Pascoe prevailing on the second extra hole. Sandhurst’s Lisa Holmquest finished in third position a further five strokes in arrears.

Players enjoyed the sunny final day at Sandhurst after Monday’s opening round at Southern had been played in cool and overcast conditions.

Perry and Sellen also took out the nett (handicap reduced) titles played concurrently with the stroke event while John Owen won the Men’s Stroke Trophy for players aged 45 and over.
