It didn't take long for defending Champion Dylan Perry to stamp his authority on the 2016 Country Championship at Goulburn Golf Club today.
The 21-Year-old New South Wales representative has posted an impressive four-under par 66 to hold the lead after the first round of the 36-hole Championship by three shots from Gavin Fitzgerald of Moruya, Adam Robinson of Cooma and Royal Canberra's Jordan Ayre.
After starting on the 13th hole, Perry got off to a flyer with two birdies in his first three holes. The fireworks began when the Hunter District representative got to the front nine, going on a birdie-eagle-birdie run to break away from the rest of the 95-man field.
Perry was happy with his play today. "I'm glad to be leading; it felt pretty good out there.
"It's the first time I've played here, and it felt pretty comfortable.
"It's a typical country course, reasonably tight, with excellent greens to putt on," Perry said.
The Men's handicap leader is a local product, Goulburn's Anthony Rath with a nett 67.
Act-Monaro lead the teams' division with a score of 5-over par 285 from the Hunter District.
The final round begins tomorrow at 7.30am.
