Pfeifer wins Amputee Open

Chad Pfeifer has held on to win the 2019 Ottobock Australian Amputee Open by three shots at Pelican Waters.

The American entered the final day six shots clear of eventual runner-up Geoff Nicholas of Australia.

After a nervy start Pfeifer picked up his first birdie of the day on the par-4 ninth and was never headed on his way to a final round 80.

Pfeifer, a retired army veteran, claims the Ottobock Australian Amputee Open for the first time.

New South Welshman Nicholas signed for a round of 77 but that wasn’t enough to reel in the American, the highlights coming with birdies at the 6th and 16th holes.

Also finishing on the podium was Bankstown Golf Club’s Shane Luke, the Australian representative shooting the round of the day, a two over 74, to claim outright third.

Fellow Australian representative Stephen Prior locked down fourth on the standings 12 shots further back, edging out countryman Tony Coates.
