Jessica Pickwick and Caleb Perry have gone on to claim Westcoast Open Amateur honours after the final round at Warrnambool Golf Club today.
The typical coastal wind made its first appearance for the weekend, the players had so far been treated to perfectly benign conditions. With gusts around 24 km per hour, it was a different course to what was played on Friday.
Pickwick of Kilmore maintained her overnight lead to take out the women’s title by 8 shots from Cobram-Barooga’s Steffi Vogel. Both players returned over par rounds today to finish on 72-hole totals of 298 and 300 respectively. Pickwick moved across the world from Kilmore to Texas in 2011 for US college, representing Western Texas before transferring across to Tarleton State University. Since her return, she has won multiple state titles including 2017 Victorian Women’s Par 3 Championship, Victorian Women’s County Championships, Victorian Women’s Spring Tournament and the Westcoast Open Amateur.
Across in the men’s field, Perry of Warrnambool has come from behind overnight to claim the win, a one-under par final round at his home course was all that was needed to clinch victory. Perry was the number 1 player for the Commonwealth Golf Club who recently won division 1 Colts metropolitan pennant. Overnight leader Antony Majstorovic (Victoria) returned a 2 over par 74 to finish in second place one shot behind.
Golf Victoria would like to extend our appreciation to both Warrnambool Golf Club and Port Fairy Golf Links for the exceptional way they have hosted the event. The courses were presented in excellent condition with friendly hospitality provided.
