Pickwick defends Spring title

The final round of the 2017 edition of the Victorian Women’s Spring tournament concluded today in more favourable conditions to that of round one.

As it stood overnight, both the gross and nett titles in all three grades were up for grabs heading into the final round at Mansfield.

The C-Grade nett title was secured by Mansfield local Marion Sargeant, who finished the second round with the best nett score of the day (72) to storm home in the nett standings. Mansfield locals used their knowledge to their advantage in both C-Grade events with Shirley Nolan finishing with a five shot win in the gross event.

The B-Grade nett prize was won by three shots by Beechworths Coral Ward with a score of 155. The B-Grade gross honours featured another Mansfield local Nicki Cooper who was the winner by one shot with a score of 190.

The A-Grade gross event and overall Ruby McKenzie title was taken home by defending champion Jess Pickwick (Kilmore) after a final round 75. Pickwick was victorious by three strokes from Buninyong’s Helen Pascoe and overnight leader Stephanie Wearne (Victoria).

Wearne secured the A-Grade nett and overall Vi Teesdale nett titles with back to back nett rounds of 74 from a daily handicap of 5. It was a dominant win by Wearne, with Judy Langford her nearest challenger on the nett leaderboard five strokes back with a nett total of 153.

All staff at Mansfield GC are to be commended on the condition of the course and hospitality provided to all players at this year’s event.
