Pickwick Leads by Six at Autumn Tournament

The 2019 Victorian Women’s Autumn Tournament kicked off this morning, as 130 female golfers teed it up whilst the sun rose over Port Phillip Bay at Mornington Golf Club.

Jess Pickwick (Kilmore GC) hit off in the morning and finds herself leading the A grade and Overall Gross recording an excellent score of five under par 65. Pickwick made seven birdies and two bogeys with the three birdies over the last five holes. Sandbelt golfers Ash Hall (Kingston Heath) and Jesika Clark (Victoria GC) sit six shots back at one over par 71 but have the potential to go low as play heads to Flinders GC tomorrow. Jesika and Jess also lead at the halfway mark in the A – Grade Nett section and the Vi Teasdale Trophy with a first round nett score of 68.

In the B- Grade it is Sue Byrne (Trentham GC) who leads the way with a first round score of 89. Closely following is Mornington’s Margaret Hancock who sits one shot back on 90. Judith Fizgergarld (Commonwealth GC) and Kaylene Van Der Net (Mornington GC) sit in third position after day one.

Fitzgerald and Byrne who play off daily handicaps of 17 and 15 respectfully, share the lead in the B – Grade nett both finishing with 75.

Mornington local Jennifer Low is only one shot ahead in the C – Grade Gross with a score of 93. Regular event attendee Jane Neale (Eastern GC) will be chasing Low going into the final round tomorrow. Low also has pole position in the Nett competition, having finished with 71 off her daily handicap of 22 which puts her five clear of Neale.

D – Grade is tightly contested with eight players within five shots of the lead. Frances Renehan (Traralgon GC) holds the halfway lead with 102. Local Kay White (Mornington GC) is one shot back. In the nett, Renehan’s 76 off a daily handicap of 26 places her tied for the lead with Adele Baensch (Shepperton GC) whilst White is one shot back.
