Round 1 of the Women’s Country Championship and Glenelg Cup was played in brilliant sunshine today across both Old and West Courses at Cobram Barooga Golf Club. Players were treated to a sunny top of 18 degrees and a mild breeze this afternoon which was a welcomed break from the chill of winter golf.
Clubhouse leader after the first qualifying round for the Country Championship is Jessica Pickwick from Kilmore. The +1 marker started out strong from the 10th hole of the West Course with three birdies on the front nine for one under then came home with two bogeys to finish at one over par 73. The leaderboard is tight at the top, with Pickwick a mere shot ahead of The National’s Jade Shellback on 74 followed by Jane Wall (Barham) and Casey Wild (Wodogna) on 75 and 76 respectively. The best nett scores in the Country Championship were a pair of 72s from Port Fairy’s Kerry Scales and Monique Day of Maffra.
Over in the Glenelg Cup, Marg Mould of Rich River is in the standalone lead on the Old Course. The 26 marker had a fantastic back nine of 47 off the stick (nett 34) for a total of nett 73 to be leading by a single shot from Lynne Templeton (Maffra) and Sharon Pyle (Tocumwal). The best gross score came from Sharon Pyle of Tocumwal with a 94 off the stick followed closely by Templeton on 95. Shot of the day on the Old Course went to Zoe Bandy of Midlands, holing out for a brilliant eagle 3 on the par 5 fourth hole.
The Tournament Dinner is hosted at the club tonight before Round 2 begins again tomorrow morning from 9am.
