Pilbara greens turning green

The Karratha Golf Club in Western Australia&aposs Pilbara region in conjunction with the Shire of Roebourne (WA) has embarked on a bold plan to convert their current eighteen sand scrape greens to grass. A technical consultancy team led by Richard Chamberlain Golf Design have been commissioned to co-ordinate the activities that will design innovative and cost effective putting greens. RCGD will lead the irrigation and agronomy team in an initial visit to Karratha in early February 2014. During this time they will assess the current golf course and evaluate the path forward with regard to the layout of golf holes, its irrigation requirements, grass selections and ongoing maintenance strategies for the club. RCGD said they were proud to have been chosen to for this role which promises to be an exciting and unique project. The golfers in these regional areas are just as passionate and competitive as the folk at the more acclaimed clubs throughout the country and they deserve to play on the best quality golf courses we can provide for them. It is anticipated that the designs and specifications will be completed in the next three months.
