Australia&aposs Terry Pilkadaris shot a second straight 67 to move to eight-under overall and outright second place at the midway point of the Midea China Classic in Guangzhou on Friday. Pilkadaris, bidding for this fourth Asian Tour win, had to overcome a nervous scare on his homeward run when he shot two successive bogeys on the 13th and 14th. The Australian, however managed to regain his composure and made up for those costly errors with two successive birdies at the 17th and closing 18th. “It was really frustrating to drop those two shots at 13th and 14th. But when I was at the 17th hole, I realized that I was only a few shots behind the leader. I was so fired up that I birdied my last two holes,” the 34-year-old Australian said. Compatriot Marcus Both is a further stroke behind in a tie for third with seven other players including fellow Aussie Neven Basic. But they are all chasing South Korean teenager Noh Seung-yul who signed for a second successive five-under-par 66 to take the lead at the Royal Orchid International Golf Club. It has been a great tournament for the Aussie contingent with Mitchell Brown, Andrew Dodt and Richard Moir all in a tie for 11th at six-under. Jason King, Harry Epstien, Gary Simpson and Darren Beck are also still in the hunt at four-under par. Chinese Taipei&aposs first-round leader Lu Wei-chih, who carded a seven-under 64 on Thursday, fell back to joint 11th place after a one-over 72. Noh, who already has three runner-up finishes in his rookie year on the Asian Tour, was bogey-free for the round. He reached the turn in 33 after birdies on the first, eighth and ninth, before further picked up shots on the 15th and 18th. “My tee shots and putts went really well for me today and I&aposm hoping to continue this fine form,” said Noh, who is aiming for his first professional win. Pilkadaris carded seven birdies and three bogeys in his round, while his compatriot Marcus Both was one of eight players tied for third after a round of 66 featuring seven birdies and two bogeys.
