Play begins at Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur

Players were welcomed to the Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur this afternoon for round 1 of the club’s annual Senior Amateur tournament. Scattered showers cleared up into lovely sunshine for players finishing their last few holes.

Kerry Boehm is the men’s clubhouse leader after carding a 5 over 71 off the stick. Boehm’s round included birdies on holes 6 and 8. Hot on the heels of the Patterson River member are Grant Arnold (Kooringal), Stephan Day (Ballarat), Ian Frost (Rich River) and Ken O’Brien (Rossdale) all tied a shot back on 72.

Boehm is tied leader in the nett section with Ignatius Duivenvoorden from Yarram, both carding nett 66s. Arnold and Lou Villani (Hidden Valley) are closely behind tied on nett 67.

Tina Cowie from Tambo Valley is leading the women’s stableford section with a steady score of 36 points. Cowie jumped out of the gates with a strong 24 points on the front nine, followed by 12 points coming home. Local member Jan Thompson is 3 shots behind on 33 points, with another 3 players tied on 32 points. 

Helen Pascoe is continuing her dominating streak in the women’s scratch stableford section, carding 31 scratch points to lead by 6 points from Heather Harley (Kooringal) on 25 points and Denise Murphy (Kyneton) on 22 points.

Set in the scenic Macedon Ranges surrounded by native bushland, Hepburn Springs is a beautifully undulating and challenging golf course. The volunteer based club is celebrating its 90th birthday this year and share’s its home with over 100 resident kangaroos.

Players will begin their second, and final, round tomorrow morning teeing off at 9:30am.
