Play is underway at the 2016 ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open at The Grange in Adelaide.

Victoria's Breanna Elliott had the honour of hitting the first ball of the tournament from the first tee.

Perfect conditions greeted the 156 players in the field for the $US 1.3 million tournament, with world No. 1 and defending champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand scheduled to tee off at 7.55am local time.

She will play alongside Australia's top-ranked female Minjee Lee of Perth, while five-time Open champion Karrie Webb is in the afternoon groupings.
