Chris Tatt has produced a fantastic two under par round of 68 to lead the men’s field at the Victorian Men’s Senior Amateur Championship.
Playing in the morning field, Tatt was able to tame the tough conditions at the beautifully presented Barwon Heads Golf Club.
Tatt started his round superbly, sitting at three under through his first eight holes.
A double bogey in the middle of his round would slow his momentum but he was able to hold it together to see him lead by two going into round two tomorrow.
Level at even par behind Tatt is Gordon Claney and Frank Fowler.
The pair, who played alongside Tatt, will be paired with him again tomorrow as players head to 13th Beach for the next two rounds.
Tatt also leads the net by one over Barry Tippett.
In the women’s field, the leaderboard is packed at the top with five players all within one shot.
Tied at the top is Kim Burke and Jacquelin Morgan on five over par after they finished with 78.
Burke, who played in the morning, started her round magnificently, sitting at even par though her first 10 holes.
Burke was unable to finish her round the same way and will be looking to bounce back tomorrow.
Morgan was consistent through her round and bounced back well from a double bogey on her first hole of the tournament.
The pair lead by one over Kerrin Biddle, Pauline Jeffrey and Carmen Palframan.
In the women’s net section, Judith Bull leads the way by one after her score of 73 net.
Closely behind is Pauline Jeffrey on 74.
Players will compete on the creek course tomorrow at 13th Beach.
