In perfect conditions at The National Golf Club defending champion Jason Perry (Vic) shot an opening round of 73 to share the lead with Steve Thompson (Qld) and Ian Walker (NT) in the 2011 Australian Mid Amateur Championship. Greg Doolan (Vic) and Ben Lockwood (Vic) are close behind after rounds of 74. In the Women’s Mid Amateur Sue Fairhurst from NSW shot the round of the day with an 81. Angie Thorne (WA) and Katrina Jones (Qld) share second place while defending champion Sue Wooster (Vic) shot 86 to be in fourth place. Second round is tomorrow with the field seeded for the final round on Wednesday.
