Playgolf WEEK 2014 dates confirmed

Following the success of the inaugural PlayGolf WEEK in South Australia last week, Golf Australia is pleased to announce the concept will be rolled out nationally next year with a bumper week of golf activities held around the country from 17-23 November 2014. Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said the pilot week in South Australia had proved there was strong support from golf clubs and a healthy public appetite for a week of golf in metropolitan and regional centres. We are very pleased with PlayGolf WEEK in South Australia we had terrific support from Golf SA and the South Australian golf clubs and the wider community and people of all ages were keen to try their hand at golf, Pitt said. The next phase of this project will be moving it to a national platform. It is not only important in our national promotion of golf but it showcases golf clubs and facilities which use the week to market their services to newer players. I encourage all clubs to make a note in their 2014 calendars. Last Sunday more than 40 golf clubs from across South Australia participated in an Open Day, offering a special PlayGolf WEEK incentive at their club. General Manager of Royal Adelaide Golf Club, Andrew Gay said all clubs were looking at new ways of introducing potential players to the game. The Adelaide golf clubs strongly supported the program and I have heard very positive feedback from these clubs who have all reported increased activity over the week, Gay said. Urban Golf was fun and a great way to finish the week. I can see real potential in this concept which appeals to players of all ages and skill levels whilst lacking the formality usually associated with playing at golf clubs. Simon Norris, Golf Operations Manager of Links Lady Bay Golf Club said the club had established a new junior program out of the interest generated during the week. We have the birth of a new Links Lady Bay Junior Club with our professional Sarah coaching each Friday afternoon. We signed up new adult members and now have a base group of kids who are keen to get into the sport. Golf SA CEO Chris Luz-Raymond said the state was pleased to have piloted the first PlayGolf WEEK. The week has proved exactly what hard work and energy among clubs can achieve. It has been a fantastic experience to be a part of and we re already planning for our 2014 program in South Australia we re ready to build on this success. All golf clubs will receive more information and PlayGolf WEEK registration details in the new year. PlayGolf WEEK will be held nationally from 17-23 November 2014.
