Sunshine Coast teenager Cassie Porter has produced a sensational individual effort to finish equal-first in the Toyota World Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
Porter, 16, from Peregian Springs, shot rounds of 71-70-67-69 to finish the 72 holes at Chukyo Golf Club at 11-under par, tied with American Rose Zhang and Mexico’s Cory Lopez.
While the Toyota World Junior is a teams event, it marks a major stride forward for Porter, who led the Queensland team at the recent girls interstate series and whose amateur wins include the Katherine Kirk Classic.
The Australian team of Porter, Kirsten Rudgeley and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard finished fourth overall behind Japan, Mexico and the United States with Rudgley tied-13th in the individual and Hinson-Tolchard 24th.
The Australian boys were 10th overall, led by Western Australian Hayden Hopewell who finished tied-14th in the individual section.
South Africa dominated the boys championship, becoming the first team ever to break 40-under par.
