Powell and Sohail lead 2016 Future Stars

The inaugural Future Stars Rankings is underway for 2016 with the opening events taking place during the first school term and school holidays.

Ben Powell has hit the ground running in the boys section after tallying a whopping 393 points after just five events. Eight year old Harrison Gomez is nipping at the heels of the left hander on a total of 323 points.

In the girls section, Nasya Sohail has a narrow lead with 272 points over Jazzy Roberts who sits a mere 15 points behind on 263. Just last week Sohail notched up a record 9th victory at the Victorian U16 Classic and no doubt she will be looking to extend that number when the next event rolls around in July.

The Future Stars rankings is a significant step in streamlining all of the introductory competitions not requiring a handicap that Golf Victoria has to offer and provide a clear pathway of golf events for the development of young players. Many of the state's finest young players have started out in these events and progressed through the pathway to achieve their golfing goals.

Ranking points can be accrued across all four events in either the boys or girls sections. Victorian Primary Schools, Junior Secondary Schools, and the Stuart Appleby Rookie Series are all played over a modified 9-holes shortened course while the U16 Classic is contested on an 18-hole pitch and putt course.
