Pratt pipped in Western Amateur semi finals

Western Amateur Match Play Scoreboard Golf Australia National Squad member Kieran Pratt surged all the way to the semi finals before being beaten on the 19th hole at The Western Amateur Championship at Skokie Golf Club in Glencoe Illinois. Pratt, who finished the stroke play section with three consecutive rounds of 71, was the only Australian to qualify for the match play section. The Victorian defeated Georgia&aposs Henrik Norlander 3&1 in the round of 16 before comfortably defeating Yaroslav Merkulov 3&2 in the quarter finals. In the semi finals, Pratt faced California&aposs Gregor Main – the last player to qualify for the match play section following a six man play-off. Both morning semifinal matches went to 19 holes after Main and Pratt birdied the 18th hole to square their respective matches to force sudden death. Main defeated Pratt on the first extra hole when Pratt hit his approach shot from the left rough above the hole on the severe back-to-front tilting first green and couldn’t stop his first putt from rolling 10 feet past the hole despite merely tapping it. Meanwhile, Main hit his approach onto the green below the hole and two-putted for par to win the match. Pratt finished T63 at the Porter Cup in the previous week.
