The Presidents Cup trophy will visit Adelaide on Thursday 28 & Friday 29 July The Presidents Cup trophy will be in Adelaide from Thursday, 28th July, until Friday, 29th July, as part of a tour to reach golf fans in advance of the upcoming Presidents Cup, November 15-20 at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia. On Thursday, The Presidents Cup will visit the Royal Adelaide Golf Club and Kooyonga Golf Club. The visits to the Clubs will allow host club members, members of other affiliated golf clubs and the public the rare opportunity of getting up close with The Presidents Cup and having a photo taken. Royal Adelaide Golf Club has been the venue for many international and interstate matches and championships for over 100 years. The Club has hosted nine Australian Open Championships and sixteen Australian Amateur Championships. The Australian Ladies Amateur and Open Championships have also been played over the links. Royal Adelaide has always enjoyed a high ranking not only nationally (currently rated number 6 by the Golf Australia Magazine) but also in the World listings (in the top 100 courses in the world). Kooyonga Golf Club is another wonderful example of a championship golf course in undulating sand hills just 15 minutes from the central business district of Adelaide. Kooyonga has been the venue for many international and interstate championships and enjoys a high ranking amongst private clubs in Australia. On Friday, the trophy will make its way to The Grange Golf Club where Greg Norman won his first major tournament. Greg Norman s ties with the club continue with his company Greg Norman Golf Course Design currently working on the redevelopment of the course. The Trophy will then make a whistle stop visit at the ShowDown Luncheon. This is an annual charity lunch raising funds for Little Heroes Foundation. Now in their 15th year Little Heroes Foundation have contributed over $12 million to the Women&aposs & Children&aposs Health Network and other funding programs to make a genuine and enduring contribution to a more fulfilling life for children living with cancer and serious illness. To finish off a great day in Adelaide the trophy will complete its South Australian journey with a visit to Glenelg Golf Club. The members have been invited to the club house where the trophy will be proudly on display for all members to see. The Presidents Cup has a proud history of supporting charities. Unlike most sporting events, players do not receive prize money at The Presidents Cup. Instead, the PGA TOUR pledges to contribute to charities, which are nominated by the players, captains and captains assistants from both teams. Adelaide s golf courses are amongst some of the best in Australia, they are highly acclaimed. We are delighted to invite the Top 4 courses in Adelaide to host the trophy,” said The Presidents Cup Executive Director Matt Kamienski. “We are well aware of the many golf fans in Adelaide and we are looking forward to hosting the many volunteers who have made plans to attend The Presidents Cup in Melbourne in November. Having the The Presidents Cup in Adelaide this week gives all those avid golf fans a great opportunity to see it on their home soil. The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, site of the 1998 event, will host the 2011 event, November 15-20.
