Preview – 2017 SA Women’s A1 Pennant Sanderson Cup

The Golf SA Women's A1 Pennant, now known as the ‘Sanderson Cup’ will commence on Sunday 28th May, with Kooyonga Golf Club hosting the first round of matches.

The ‘Sanderson Cup’ title, is in honour of Pauline Sanderson, who was a noted player and administrator and a member and pennant player for both Glenelg and Kooyonga Golf Clubs, where she won numerous titles.

The Sanderson Cup is a 6 team Competition, played over a 5 round season (each team plays each other once). The top 2 teams after 5 rounds, play off in the Final on Sunday 9th July at Royal Adelaide Golf Club.

Back to back premier, The Grange will field a strong team which includes three current women’s state team players. The sides below will be trying their best to knock off The Grange who is well placed to go for the three-peat.

The Grange Team Manager Kristine Tapp believes the team will be ultra-competitive again.

“The Grange Golf Club Sanderson Cup team is once again looking very impressive. Team Captain, Wei-Jean Foo, will lead her players into another season hoping to bring home the trophy for the third time. We are expecting some great challenges and look forward to a very fair and competitive pennant season.” Tapp said

Runner up last year, Kooyonga, went very close to winning their first flag since 2006 but were defeated 3-2 in an extremely close final. It does show that Kooyonga has the right mix of players and Team Manager Merry Frogley is expecting another strong season in 2017.

Once again Kooyonga has an experienced A1 squad and expects to be able to challenge some of our younger opposition. We are looking forward to this Pennant Season and the opportunity to have teams 5 teams participating in A1, A2, A3, A4 and Cleek 1.” Frogley said
