Price in the hunt

Australian Aron Price has carded a solid 69 to be in contention at the halfway stage of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The 26-year-old shot five birdies and just two bogeys on his way to a three-under-par round and seven-under overall to be in a tie for seventh place five shots off the lead. South African Retief Goosen rocketed into the lead after a blistering eight-under-par 64 took him to 12-under and a two stroke lead over American Dustin Johnson. Robert Garrigus, Charley Hoffman, Mick Weir and Mark Calcavecchia are all at eight-under. Besides Price, it was a disappointing day for the Australian contingent, after shooting opening rounds of 67, Steve Elkington and Jason Day both shot three-over to plummet down the leaderboard into a tie for 43rd, equal with Matt Jones. Greg Chalmers, Steve Allan and Mathew Goggin are all a shot back at one-under, while Jarrod Lyle and Marc Leishman are in a tie for 105th at one-over.
