Primary Schools Event in full swing

For thousands of young Victorians this year’s Primary Schools Golf Event has been marked in their calendar since their participation in the event last year. For others, the event will be an exciting introduction to the game.

The Primary Schools Golf Event is structured like a mini-tournament and offers players a mini-version of an actual golf course. Par 3s are only 100 metres long, while par 4 and par 5 holes measure only 200 and 300 metres respectively. With the partnership between Golf Victoria, School Sport Victoria and the PGA of Australia, the organisations are working together to grow the unique event to ensure that the first golfing experience for all players is a memorable one.

Last year, 2,700 students participated in the event across the state at 60 different golf courses. The target for this year’s Primary Schools Event is to attract 4,000 students to participate and experience the thrill of making a putt or hitting a straight drive down the fairway.

Students from grades three to six from around Victoria have already been battling it out in the Regional Qualifiers in an effort to book a place in the State Final to be held at Kooringal Golf Club on 1 December. With this year’s event underway, an increase of an additional 200 students participating has already been achieved.

With more than 30 qualifying events still scheduled in 2014, it’s not too late to enter.

Registrations can be made via Golf Victoria’s junior website. There are a number of Regional Qualifiers scheduled for Term 3:
