Brett Rumford

Rumford enjoyed the best fortnight of his career earlier in 2013 when he won back-to-back events in Asia. He claimed the Ballantine&aposs Championship after a superb eagle three at the first extra hole of a sudden-death play-off to edge out Marcus Fraser and Peter Whiteford. Seven days later he won the Volvo China Open, this time cruising to a four-stroke victory. Those were his fourth and fifth European Tour victories and first since 2007, when he won the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, chipping in at the first extra hole of a sudden-death play-off to see off England s Phillip Archer. Previous triumphs were at the dual-ranking St Omer Open in 2003 and the Irish Open in 2004, when his experience from growing up in Perth the third windiest city in the world stood him in good stead over the testing links at Baltray. As an amateur, he won the 1999 ANZ Players Championship in Australia the week after Aaron Baddeley did exactly the same in the Australian Open the first time two amateurs had won successive professional events.
