Pros Lonard and Popovic join Isuzu Qld Open line-up

ious Australian PGA Championship winners Peter Lonard and Daniel Popovic have joined the line-up of players at this year’s Isuzu Queensland Open.

Lonard, who will be eligible for the over-50's circuit in 2017, is a one time winner on the PGA TOUR and is using 2016 as a warm-up for next year's Champions Tour.

In 2012 Daniel Popovic made headlines around Australia as the rookie who won the Australian PGA Championship. He’ll be looking to better his T26 finish earlier in the year at the Victorian Open when he plays his first Queensland Open.

The addition of the Popovic and Lonard supports an already strong field set to play at The Brisbane Golf Club next month.

Also joining the field are two of the state’s leading amateurs, QAS members and Isuzu Queensland Open debutants, Louis Dobbelaar and Charlie Dann.

Dann will head into the Championship in peak form after recently winning the Mandurah Amateur in Perth.

At 15-years-old, Dobbelaar may be one of the youngest in the field but has been playing well both in Australia and overseas. More recently he recorded a T12, finish in the US Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Club.

Golf Queensland's Golf Operation Manager and Isuzu Queensland Open Tournament Director, Luke Bates, said Louis would make the most his home ground knowledge.

“Louis spends a lot of time at The Brisbane Golf Club where he is a member and also trains with the QAS and will no doubt use this to his advantage,” Bates said.

Bates added there was still an amateur exemption to be decided at the Keperra Bowl which will be played the week before the Championship.

“We also have a unique opportunity for any amateur with a handicap of 4.4 or less to attempt to pre-qualify on the Monday of the Championship,” Bates said.

“With only 10 days to go until entries close we look forward to announcing additional profile players.”

Entries for the Isuzu Queensland Open close Thursday 29th September 2016 at 5:00PM.
