Pros’ path to Europe locked in

The pathway to Europe for Australia’s professional golfers is more assured after the European Tour and ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia ratified a strategic alliance overnight.

Veteran pro and PGA chairman Peter O’Malley said the alliance formalised a partnership that would create new opportunities across Australasia.

“The ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour have always shared a strong relationship and this alliance is a natural progression as we look to grow and enhance golf in the Australasia region,” O’Malley said.

“This is an opportunity for our players; we have plenty of talented up-and-coming as well as established players who will benefit from the alliance. I look forward to seeing more of them competing on the European Tour in the future.”

The announcement follows the success of an alliance between the European Tour and Asian Tour, agreed last July, that has enabled the relationship between those tours to expand, with four events co-sanctioned in the 2017 season and two more tri-sanctioned alongside the PGA Tour of Australasia, including this week’s World Super 6 Perth.
