QLD Amateur champion is youngest in event’s history

In the sunshine state, Ellie Na became the youngest ever winner of the Queensland Amateur championship after beating Tasmania s Ashlee Dewhurst 2&1 in a highly competitive match over 36 holes. At just 14 years of age, Na got her hands on the silverware once held by the likes of Karrie Webb and Amy Yang. The WA Women’s State Amateur championship was won by Nicole Montgomery at Cottesloe Golf Club. Montgomery defeated fellow Western Australian Bronwyn Speechley 12 & 10. Na, Dewhurst and Montgomery are now all in action at the South Australian stroke play event. Dewhurst leads the field with rounds of 69 and 74. In the 50th Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Golf Club, Australia s Matt Griffin was the highest-placed Australian in 13th place with a score of 1-over 280. New South Welshmen Scott Arnold and Tim Stewart were the next best, sharing 21st place with a 3-over score of 283. The final event for the Australians in the US is the Western Amateur, to be played at Point O Woods Country Club at Michigan. Victoria sStacey Keating and South Australia s Stephanie Na begin their opening rounds of the Canadian Amateur tonight to be played at Elmhurst Golf Club in Winnipeg.
