QLD storm to Girls’ lead, NSW ahead at Boys’

AUSTRALIAN GIRLS&apos INTERSTATE TEAMS MATCHES for the Burtta Cheney Cup Ulverstone Golf Club Australian Girls&apos Interstate Teams Matches – Results Round 1 Australian Girls&apos Interstate Teams Matches – Results Round 2 The Queensland Girls&apos team began their 2010 campaign in much the same fashion as they finished the 2009 Interstate Teams Series, with an early lead at Ulverstone Golf Club in Northern Tasmania. Led by Emily McLennan, the Queensland team defeated South Australia 4-1 in the morning before accounting for Tasmania 5-0 in the afternoon to make a resounding move in their pursuit of the Burtta Cheney Cup. The Queensland Girls lifted the Cup in Alice Springs last year. Victoria, with a crushing 5-0 win over Tasmania in the morning, held the lunch time lead but a 4 1/2 to 1/2 loss to New South Wales left them in third place at the close of the opening day&aposs play. The afternoon resounding win over Victoria moved New South Wales into outright second place after winning both contests. Western Australia are in fourth place after a narrow morning loss to NSW and a halved contest against South Australia in the afternoon. South Australia are in fifth place after winning three matches and squaring another which led them to one halved contest. Tasmania endured an extremely tough day and sit in sixth place. AUSTRALIAN BOYS&apos INTERSTATE TEAMS MATCHES Launceston Golf Club Australian Boys&apos Interstate Teams Matches – Results Round 1 Australian Boys&apos Interstate Teams Matches – Results Round 2 New South Wales hold a slender lead over Western Australia following the opening two rounds of the Australian Boys&apos Interstate Teams Matches at Launceston Golf Club. The New South Wales boys turned in an excellent Round 1 performance with a 5-0 win over the ACT team highlighted by resounding 7&6 and 6&5 wins for Jake Higginbottom and Jarrod Freeman respectively. Tasmania&aposs Cory Crawford halved his match with Jake Higginbottom in the afternoon&aposs Tasmania v NSW contest but it was consolation as the New South Welshmen won the other four matches. Western Australia&aposs boys defeated Northern Territory 4&1 to sit in second place after the opening round and maintained their position with an impressive 4-1 win over Victoria in the afternoon. After sharing third place with Victoria in the morning, Queensland moved into outright third following their afternoon victory over the ACT. Victoria and the Northern Territory are tied in fourth place after winning one contest each on the opening day. South Australia is in sixth place while Tasmania are in seventh place with both hoping to win a contest in Monday&aposs rounds. Tasmania will also need to wait until Monday to have a chance of winning their first contest following a difficult start to the championship.
