Queenslanders dominate SA Classic opening round

Three Queenslanders sit jointly at the top of the leaderboard at 3-under, after the opening round of the SA Amateur Classic at Royal Adelaide.

Jediah Morgan from Royal Queensland was the best of the morning players carding four birdies in his 69, while Connor Edmonds from Indooroopilly GC and Lawry Flynn from Brisbane GC were the best of the afternoon groups.

Edmonds made three birdies and didn’t drop a shot in his fine round, while Flynn made five birdies moving quickly to three under thru four holes.

“I struck the driver pretty well today and my approach shots into greens were pretty good, especially on the hard holes”. Flynn said.

“Fourteen was my first hole and I got off to a good start there. I hit a good approach and nailed the putt and at 17 which I find pretty hard, I hit a good drive and a pretty good 9-iron and rolled the putt in again”.

“I was pretty happy, because I said to myself when I started today, I just wanted to get through to the 18th pretty solid, because that’s where I struggled last year, in the stretch from 14 thru to 18.

Heading into round two Flynn is focused on posting a solid second round.

“Keep doing what I’m doing, keep the game plan the same using the driver, because I am hitting that well, use it to my advantage”. Flynn added.

In a bunched up leaderboard, six players posted 2-under rounds of 70. Glenelg duo Jack Buchanan and Josh Hayes, Victorians Will Heffernan and Lawrence Curtis, Nathan Barbieri from NSW and Western Australian Minwoo Lee.

The highlight for day one was an ace to Western Australian Fred Lee (76) on the par 3, 16th hole.

Round two gets underway at 8am on Tuesday.
