Victorian Travis Sharpe holds a two shot lead from Daniel Yu (NSW) after the opening round of the Australian Boys Amateur Championship at Alice Springs Golf Club. In sunny weather with a slight breeze, Sharpe opened his campaign with a 5-under par round of 67. The 17 year old breezed through the four par-5 holes in 5-under par and nailed an eagle on the 4th hole. Sharpe said he was happy with how he played but seemed content to let his golf do the talking. I got it around and took advantage of the par fives, he said. Daniel Yu sits two strokes back after holding the clubhouse lead for much of the afternoon. South Australian Brad Moules started with an opening round 70 (-2) for outright third. Dimi Papadatos (NSW) and Aaron Wilkin (QLD) both shot even par 72s. Six players are tied for sixth place after opening round 1-over par 73s. Australian Number 1 (Boys Rankings) Cameron Smith (QLD) shot an opening round 75 (+2) as the wind increased.
