In round one of the ‘Sanderson Cup’, the home side Kooyonga kicked off its season with a win, along with The Grange and The Vines.
Kooyonga, last year’s runner up defeated Blackwood 3-2 in the opening round with Deb Percey 5&4, Jodie Deacon 4&3 and Hayley Hunt 3&2 all winning to edge Kooyonga across the line. Claiming the two matches for Blackwood were Bronie Buckley 3&2 and Gale Macpherson 1up.
In the match of the round, defending champions The Grange defeated Glenelg 3.5-1.5. In a close battle at number five Alicia Smith from The Grange defeated Matilda Wheare 1up to get the day rolling for The Grange, Jean Foo 5&4 and Jin-young Yun 3&2 also had wins.
Sarah Crocker and Louise Glennon halved their match at number four while Glenelg’s winner was Elysia Yap at number one, 2up over Ella Adams.
In a rematch of last year’s A2 final The Vines defeated Royal Adelaide 3.5-1.5.
Royal Adelaide’s Sarah Chia playing in her first A1 match, halved with Kathryn Michaelsen at number five, but wins to Vines players Acacia Curtis 3&2 and Susan Keylock 5&3 pushed The Vines ahead by two matches.
Juliet Hugo had a win for Royal 6&5, but Cailtin Peirce prevailed at number one 4&2 over Sophie Hilditch to secure the win for The Vines.
In round two matches at Blackwood, the home side faces The Vines while Royal Adelaide play The Grange. In the match of the round Kooyonga comes up against Glenelg.
