Rd 1: Smith marches to lead with opening 66

ROUND 1 RESULTS Queensland s Cameron Smith fired a 6-under par 66 to take a two stroke lead at Woodlands Golf Club in the opening round of the Srixon Australian Men’sStroke Play Championship. The National Junior Squad member, who played from the tenth tee, would have been looking at a 64 but for his double bogey on the 10th. He carded four birdies on either side of the course. It was pretty decent, Smith said. I hit fairways and hit greens and I was trying to play smart golf because I know how these courses can be set up. I ll be aiming for pretty much the same thing again tomorrow at Victoria, Smith added. New South Welshman John Lim holds outright second place, two strokes behind Smith following his 4-under par 68 at Victoria Golf Club. Queenslander Tim Hart is in third place following his 3-under par 69. Three players are tied at 2-under par including Riversdale Cup champion Nathan Holman and Matthew Perry (NZ) and Andy Roberts (VIC). New Zealander Ben Campbell is tied with Victorian William Hume and South Australia s Brad Moules in seventh place at 1-under par. The second round begins on Friday. Entry to all championships is free.
