Kooyonga and Glenelg remain undefeated after wins in round three of the Men’s A Grade Pennant Competition to hold the top two places on the ladder. Southern District and The Vines also notched up wins, both their second of the season, to move to third and fourth respectively.
In the matches played at Glenelg Golf Club, the contest of the round was between the home side and The Grange who had made three changes to its side who lost narrowly to Kooyonga the previous week.
Glenelg prevailed 5-2 and were on their game from the onset, winning the first four matches of the day, courtesy of Michael Munn 5&4, Captain Anthony Olsen 3&2, Josh Hayes 1up, Jackson Kalz 4&3. Sam Earl won Glenelg’s fifth match 2&1, while Alex Hendrick defeated Sam Burton 4&3 and Grange Captain Matt Lisk defeated Lachlan Barker 4&3 at number one to add some respectability to the score line.
Kooyonga continued on its winning way recording its second clean sheet of the season defeating Blackwood 7-0.
Both Tim Baker and Will Somerfield were the most impressive both winning their matches 7&6.
It was a tight tussle early between Southern and Tea Tree Gully with the score locked away 2-2. However, the District side claimed the win 4.5-2.5, with crucial wins to number three Brad Altmann 1up over Matthew Mcmahon and number two Jak Carter defeating Nick May 4&2.
The Vines won their match against Thaxted Park 5.5-1.5. Winners for Reynella were Corey Apthorpe 4&3, Clayton Byrne 3&2, Michael Bruggeman 3&2, Craig Rivett 4&3 and Alex Curtin 2&1. Matt Bell and Ben Ash halved while Matthew Rolton won his third match in a row for Thaxted Park by defeating Tony Nobbs 2&1.
Next week’s round four matches are held at Mount Compass with the Southern side taking on Glenelg. Recent rivals, The Grange play Tea Tree Gully, while Kooyonga will be tested by The Vines. Thaxted Park and Blackwood should play out a close contest.
